Palm Beach County School Live Streaming System
1. What do you propose to do? [20 words]
Create a live streaming video platform with multiple channels for Palm Beach County School System in Florida.
2. Is anyone doing something like this now and how is your project different? [30 words]
No. The school system does not currently have a live streaming network, but could benefit from a single platform that connects over 130 separate schools and enables sharing of video content.
3. Describe the network with which you intend to build or work. [50 words]
Each of the schools would be assigned their own video channel, and in turn, can request additional video channels for specialties activities, sports, theater, student clubs, academic programs, and classroom projects.
Individual schools are responsible for video creation, LIVE streaming and uploading into the shared system.
4. Why will it work? [100 words]
Students can access the entire video system by going to a single website, or by using embedded codes on social media that connect them directly to specific channels and locations, where they can view live streaming video, as well as a variety of recorded programs.
By providing each school with at least 60 HD webcams for LIVE teacher supervised instruction and interaction, each school can create and share video content among its students or collaborate on projects with other schools in the system.
A new streaming video platform would permit the Palm Beach County School System to expand digital learning.
5. Who is working on it? [100 words]
Telecom Innovations, Inc. a privately funded company has been providing digital technology, including live streaming, transcoding, and video platforms, since 2008. Located in South Florida, the CEO, Cy Caine, has already deployed the core platform and established personal and business relationships with many cultural councils, museums, music/movie festivals, and economic development organizations in the region.
Dr. Jerome M. Juska, a former corporate executive, and current academic at Rollins College (Crummer Graduate School of Management), specializes in digital and social media. He is the founder of a new organization, Informatics for Education, which applies principles of connectivity and shared online communication.
6. What part of the project have you already built? [100 words]
A sample of the video platform that would be used can be viewed at http://tvnow.me. It is currently delivering an assortment of live and streaming programming on a 24/7 basis through the region.
This platform that would be provisioned for the school system’s network is based on the creation of at least one channel for each of the schools and be scalable to support many live channels per school.
Sample channels are available at:

7. How would you sustain the project after the funding expires? [50 words]
The Palm Beach County School System already has a supervisory authority, The Education Network, which is responsible for broadcasting and technical activities.
The Palm Beach County School System maintains an AT&T VPN that can be used to connect together the system and broadcast the channels so the School System should not incur additional internet charges.
